What Hosts Are Saying

Real feedback from people running Play Squares boards.

After years of using pen and paper, this was such a welcome upgrade. It was easy to set up and share for our Super Bowl party.

Timothy M., Super Bowl Host

As a host, this saves so much time and eliminates manual errors. The interface is easy for players, and I'll use this for every event I host.

Brodie D., Super Bowl Host

Even my older uncle had no issues picking squares. I felt confident sharing it with everyone, and it was completely worth the price.

Brandi, Fundraiser Host

How Do Super Bowl Squares Work?

Super Bowl squares are the rare pool where the person who has never watched a snap has the same shot as the season-ticket holder standing next to them, and that will be as true of Super Bowl LXI in February 2027 as it has been of every board before it. Guests claim squares on a grid, each square ends up holding one digit for the home team and one for the away team, and whoever holds the matching pair when a quarter ends takes a share of the prize pool.

Nobody picks their own numbers

Players claim a spot on the grid before any digits exist, and the randomizing assigns numbers to the rows and columns once the board fills up. That order is what keeps things fair at a party where some guests know the teams and some are only there for the food. The board locks the moment the numbers are drawn, so the draw is the real sign-up deadline rather than kickoff.

Four chances to win in one game

Most Super Bowl boards pay a prize at the end of each scoring period, meaning the first quarter, halftime, the third quarter, and the last prize on the final score. If the home team is on 17 and the away team is on 13 when a quarter ends, the winning square holds a 7 for the home team and a 3 for the away team. Plenty of hosts add the reverse score rule for a smaller bonus, and our guide to Super Bowl squares rules settles overtime, repeat winners, and the squares nobody buys before you draw the numbers.

Match the board to your guest list

BoardWorks best for
100 squares (10 x 10)The classic party or office board, one square per digit pairing
25 squares (5 x 5)Smaller gatherings, since each square covers four pairings
10 squares (strip)A quick board where both scores get added together

A big crowd can fill 100 squares on its own, and a smaller group can still run the full board by claiming a few squares each. Our breakdown of how many squares belong in a football pool walks through what changes with each size.

For the full walkthrough, read how Super Bowl squares work or our guide to running a Super Bowl squares fundraiser. If your party wants a sheet on the wall as well, our printable Super Bowl squares template prints one with your prizes already on it. Every board here runs online, so it tracks the live score for you and shows the pending winner while the quarter is still being played, and your guests can check the board on their own phones instead of asking you who is winning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to get started?

Hosts need an email and password. Players just need the game link — they claim squares with a name and email, no account or password required.

How do players join and pick squares?

Players open your game link, tap the squares they want, and enter their name and email — the squares are claimed right away, with no code to wait for. A confirmation email follows so they can get back to the board from any device. Hosts can manage all squares before numbers are generated.

Do you handle payouts or prize money?

No. We provide the platform and workflow tools, while hosts control payouts, rules, and prize structure.

Is this safe to use?

Yes. We use industry-standard security practices, and payments are processed securely through Stripe. Review our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for details.

Is this a gambling site?

Play Squares is a digital board for friends, coworkers, and fundraisers, and we never hold or hand out prize money ourselves. Rules around pools and contests vary by state, so always check your local laws and regulations to confirm what's allowed where you live. Review the Terms of Service for more details.
